Snow Day

We took a drive to Shaver on New Year's Day. We could take the grey fog cover no longer. As we approached the top of the 4-lanes, we broke through the cover and I have never seen such a thick and even fog cover over the valley before. It looked like a calm white ocean and the hill tops around Tollhouse like small islands just off the "coast line". We could look all they way across and see the entire coastal mountain range as well. It was very impressive. The kids had never seen anything like it in their lives and were quite astonished.

We founds a huge undisturbed and unoccupied patch of sunny snow on a side street just before the town of Shaver and had the best time ever building a Snowman and throwing snowballs at each other. Maddy decided he was cold and loaned him her beenie and mittens for the afternoon. Sammy absolutely loved sitting in the snow and refused to be carried around when Ben and Maddie were running around free.

We hiked a ways out onto a ridge with a spectacular view over the valley floor. Your houses are all down there somewhere underneath the white blanket in the background. We topped it off with dinner in the very cozy Hungry Hut in Shaver which still had all the Christmas lights up. It was cool to see it even though Christmas was over.

Best Snow Day ever!!

Sounds like you're making great memories with your kids. Do you remember anything like that when YOU were a kid? I remember taking my kids to the snow and watching them slide down a hill on an inner tube and they laughed 'til they cried. I'll show you the pictures sometime. Hope your kids keep these memories in their hearts for a long, long time.

I'm glad you all had a great New Year's day at least. It was a pretty exciting day for me as well getting morphine for the first time and all. :)
